Coffee Time

Updated: Feb 20, 2024

Coffee has never been more popular than it is today! With everyone working from home, due to the circumstances, our world keeps coming up with new alternatives and trends to making your favorite brew. Below are some great ideas to avoid added sugars and other ingredients that are not the healthiest options.

  • Look for natural sugars! Fake sweeteners are ingredients such as sucralose, erythritol, etc. The better options to look for is stevia, monk fruit, and just plain sugar is better than the fake alternative.

  • Avoid large quantities. When we order a large iced coffee with caramel creamer that doubles if not triples the sugar content. Why not work on portion size by ordering a small, avoided excess sugar, and still getting your coffee fix? Same goes for at home, less coffee calls for less sugar required.

  • Try to gradually decrease sugar/cream needed in coffee. Try drinking an iced black coffee, or add just a little milk of choice. That will greatly reduce saturated fats that are added from heavy cream as well as the sugar content. As well, take caution in high fat alternative milks such as coconut milk. Almond and oat are lower in fat as well as sugar.

  • Natural Extracts. Vanilla, raspberry, or any other yummy flavor can certainly spruce up your daily cup of joe without adding any unnecessary sugar or saturated fats.
